Propaganda

GOP and Fox News/OAN/etc. propagandists cast Trump as a military leader, as a father figure, and ultimately as a messianic leader brought to redeem the United States (a la QAnon conspiracy theories and the MAGA faithful). All propaganda idealizes Trump as a gifted statesman who has brought stability, created jobs, and is restoring American greatness. Under the Trump administration, American officials and civil servants (along with the GOP faithful) are expected to pay public allegiance to their leader (via rallies, television appearances, Op-Ed’s, etc.) in quasi-religious forms, such as giving an “ok” hand gesture or a “Proud Bois/Boogaloo Bois salute”, or reciting an “oath” to the QAnon movement, and greeting others on the street with cries of MAGA, Fuck your feelings, two of the so-called Trump Greetings. Faith in Trump strengthens the bonds of national unity, while non-compliance signals dissension in a society where open criticism of the Trump administration is grounds for demanding imprisonments (see: chants of “lock her up” and “lock them all up” at rallies along with Trump demanding Barr and DOJ investigate, indict and jail his political opponents).

If any of this is sounding familiar, especially to those conscious of our not so distant past, that’s because they’re using an old, but effective playbook.

Striking how easily the original can be modified to fit present times, isn’t it?

7 days are left to vote. Get out and do your civic duty so that the generations that come after you can too.

7 days until we, as Americans, have the opportunity to right the ship of state and put our nation back on the right track. Back on course for a more equitable, prosperous and moral nation. The American Experiment must continue.

“If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. I hope I am over wary; but if I am not, there is, even now, something of ill-omen, amongst us.” – Abraham Lincoln
